‘Urban Romance’, Dalian

Urban Romance is a design for a multifunctional building with 41000 m2 parking, 44000 m2 shopping center, 48000 m2 offices and 4000 apartments in the heart of Dalian, The 'Capital of romance' in China. The three types of functional program are individually expressed in one integral architectural style. Two volumes with a small space in between are shifting towards each other. The towers rotate and bend without touching each other. It is like an urban romance. The spatial tension between the 80 storey towers creates a striking distinction between this building and the single high rise buildings in the surrounding. The built space in between is the public connection of the seven story high shopping center.
