The arrival of Asian Olympic Games to Shenyang is a reason for the city to redevelop both banks of the Hun River. A natural designed park will bring nature into the center of this busy Chinese city. The existing paths, squares, piers, sport fields and plants are included in a new layout of the park. The program of the park is enriched by various sport fields with supporting cultural and entertainment facilities. The design tries to make all Olympic sports available in open air for the citizens of Shenyang. Meandering paths and wide riverside boulevards connect different parts of the park also with the city. A designed line of outdoor furniture underlines the natural character of this park. Special attention is being paid to the south bank which is connected with the Olympic Stadium with a splendid promenade. The trapezoidal square lies on its extension and marks the main entrance to the park. Swimming pool floating in the river becomes one of the main attractions in this area. Two existing yacht marinas will be renovated and connected with the rest of the park with a cherry tree boulevard. To distinguish it from other paths special furniture islands are designed. Adjacent former Bar Street is a two-storied construction raised on the dike. It doesn’t fulfill its function anymore so it will be transformed into a wellness facility with shops, raised boulevard and a roof garden. The only existing island has important ecological values considering birds’ migrations. Its natural character will be sustained. One path and a sustainable restaurant by the jetty will support bird watchers to explore this piece of nature in the city.
