Along the train track from Arnhem to Ede, the World Food Center, a new living and working area, is being developed on the former barracks site. Climate adaptive and nature inclusive building are central. The Veluwse Proeftuin, located in the southeast corner, consists of four parts, including one with a residential tower overgrown with climbing plants. The tower also has a roof garden above the parking garage with plantings that increase biodiversity. The ground-level homes of the middle two residential blocks have terraces with pergolas overgrown with edible plants such as hops and grapes. The space between the homes at the rear is laid out as a collective garden with a communal community shed. A long picnic table is placed in the gardens, where people can eat together. In the fourth part, several terraces are laid out with edible plantings for people and animals.
